A Boston Police Officer has been arrested after his estranged wife notified police that he has military grade explosives. Kirk Merricks, Boston Police Officer since 1999, is scheduled to be arraigned on numerous charges in the Plymouth District Court. Merricks is charged with possession of illegal explosives, receiving stolen property, and illegal ammunition.
Plymouth police searched Merricks home along with the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad after getting the tip from the Merricks estranged wife. Police found the explosives in a shed at the couple’s home on 6 Paddington Way in Plymouth, Ma.
Police found numerous explosives in the shed including a hand grenade, blasting caps, TNT, and detonation cords. Police believe that the explosives are all stolen because they are not available for purchase on the open market.
Merricks has been put on paid suspension by the Boston Police Department and a result has surrendered his gun and badge prior to his arrest. In addition to the criminal charges Merricks wife was granted a restraining order.
