Carmine Giovinazzo who plays Detective Danny Messer on the popular CSI Ny was recently arrested for DUI in Scottsdale Arizona. Giovinazzo was stopped by Scottsdale police on January 2, where he became immediately apologetic.
Immediately after the stop Mr. Giovinazzo claimed he was distracted but later admitted that he drank too much scotch at a hotel bar before driving. He took both the breathalyzer and field sobriety tests. According to the reports Giovinazzo failed the tests and was twice the legal limit. The legal limit is .08. He was then booked at jail.
According to the police report Giovinazzo was extremely polite to the arresting officer. The officer noted in his report that Giovinazzo had thanked him and was extremely cooperative.
It is never a good idea to make statements to a police officer in dui arrest. Those statements are usually put in the police report and used against someone at either a plea hearing or at trial.
It is clear that Giovinazzo made the best of a tough situation by being polite to the police officer during the arrest.
