Daniel Simmons is a 34 year old Delaware Deputy Attorney General. He was arrested last Friday and charged with raping a 16 year-old boy. According to CBS Philly, The authorities had been investigating Simmons ever since late March. When the investigators notified the state Attorney General’s office of their conclusion, a warrant for Simmons arrest was quickly approved.
Simmons had been assigned to the New Castle County Misdeamonor Trial Unit. He allegedly met the 16 year-old boy using Grindr, which is a gay dating app. A suspect allegedly came to the teen’s school, picked him up and took him to Daniel’s house. According to 6ABC, the authorities were contacted when a teacher found out about the meeting at Daniel’s house.
Kathleen Jennings is the state prosecutor for Delaware. She released a statement saying that the Simmons’ immediate resignation was secured by the Department Of Justice. She also stated that the Department Of Justice is deeply disturbed about the alleged details of this case. Additionally, Jennings stated she is most concerned about the victim’s welfare, and they will work hard to try to get justice served in this case for the victim and his family. However, the Department Of Justice is not allowed to release any more comments about this case.
On Monday, Daniel Simmons resigned from his job. He is now facing four counts of rape. According to the USA Today, the police believe that there are other victims involved in the case.
