Massachusetts State Trooper Brian Simpkins was arrested by the Stoughton police Friday morning on charges of Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol Second Offense According to the report, Trooper Simpkins, a Canton resident and former Canton Police officer was found asleep inside of his personal car in a Wendy’s parking lot. Trooper Simpkins had the an open container of alcohol and had the car running.
The Massachusetts State Police relieved Trooper Simpkins of duty and issued a press release regarding his arrest. Being relieved of duty is when a commander takes a troopers gun, badge, cruiser and police identification. This is the second time Trooper Simpkins has been arrested for Operating Under the Influence. His first offense occurred before he was hired as a Massachusetts State Trooper. He went on the Massachusetts State Police in 2006.
At his arraignment the judge in Stoughton set a bail of $1000 that the clerk’s office reported that he posted.
Being charged with a crime at the Stoughton District Court is taken very serious. A $1000 bail is high and would not be set on people in most other courts.
