Jeffrey Lanoie, a 20 year veteran police officer in Bourne Mass. has been charged with multiple crimes including a felony after a bar fight. According to the Cape Cod Times, Lanoie 49, was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and malicious destruction of property over $250.
The late night incident happened Wednesday night at the Trading Post Lounge.Bourne Police Chief Dennis Woodside described the incident as a “scuffle.” Even though Lanoie, who was drinking and violent to the officers Chief Woodside said “It’s not a big case, but we take these things very seriously.”
At around 11 p.m. staff from the bar in Bourne called police reporting a fight. When police arrived and tried to restrain Lanoie, the strong police officer resisted. Additional officers were called including the Massachusetts State police had to be called. He was eventually physically restrained. No one else was arrested.
Because of a conflict of interest, Lanoie’s arraignment was moved the Falmouth District Court to the Wareham District Court. He has plead not guilty not guilty and he was released on his own personal recognizance. He is due back in court for a pretrial conference.
Lane was awarded the prestigious Medal of Merit last month from the Massachusetts Police Association.The Medal of Merit is given to police officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty or have shown extreme courage and bravery while putting their lives in danger to protect the life of another. According to the Facebook post by the Massachusetts Police Association, “It was an honor to be in the presence of such brave officers who are the epitome of honor, integrity, and courage in law enforcement.”
