As of Wednesday, 22 people have been arrested in Florida after a sting operation successfully unveiled the identities of a mass of online predators seeking out sexual activity with children. Of the 22 people arrested, three are Disney World employees.
The sting operation, titled “Be Mine,” was posed by the Florida Lake County cyber crime unit. Undercover law enforcement officials were successful in baiting suspects by taking on the identities of children online through the use of forums and chatrooms. Suspects were arrested after they were baited to locations where they arrived in hopes of meeting and having sex with the “children” they had met online.
Orlando’s News 13 network reports that the criminals included a paramedic, an employee of a mini golf course, and a National Guard member.
As far as the Disney employees are concerned, Marilyn Waters, a spokesperson for Disney, reported that they had been subjected to unpaid leaves, and that their status of employment is currently relying on the outcome of the investigation.
Patrick Holgerson, a 32 year old employee of Disney, is currently facing additional charges from law enforcement. One charge in particular that Holgerson faces is for not disclosing to a sexual partner that he is infected with HIV. Another Orlanda news network reports that another Disney employee, Tyler Edge, had brought condoms and a knife to the bait location in hopes of engaging in sexual activity with his prey.
Another suspect that has been arrested on charges related to the sting had reportedly brought along condoms, as well as a McDonald’s Happy Meal to the bait location.
If a conviction can be made by law enforcement in result of the sting, each of the suspects may spend five years behind bars.
