William Bostic, a 51-year-old Hanover Police Officer, has been fired after allegedly stealing a packet of tanning lotion from Soleil Tanning Salon in Kingston, Massachusetts.
Bostic, a member of the Hanover Massachusetts police department for over 27 years, along with his girlfriend are said to be regular customers of Soleil Tanning Salon.
Owner of the salon, Sarah Nagle, said she was tipped off by an employee that a customer may have stolen something, and then decided to check the security tapes. The tapes showed Bostic slipping a $6-$10 packet of tanning lotion into his pocket without paying for it.
Though officials from the Hanover police department cannot comment on the case due to the fact that it’s a personnel issue, a representative for the department did say that Bostic was terminated “in response to an incident and subsequent communications related to an event at the Soleil Tanning Salon in Kingston on April 26.”
Nagle later said that Bostic’s girlfriend had returned to the salon to say that Bostic had not committed the theft intentionally, but that he had simply forgotten to pay for the lotion. Nagle was upset at the entire situation, and found it difficult to see how someone could steal from a small business.
It is unclear if Bostic will be charged with shoplifting. If Bostic is to be charged criminally his case will be heard at the Plymouth District Court.
