John W. Rogers a Captain in the Plymouth Massachusetts Police Department lost his gun Monday in the Wareham District Court. Rogers used the men’s room around 3 p.m. There he placed the gun down he then left the bathroom forgetting the gun. When he went back to retrieve it and it was gone.
After realizing the gun was missing, court officers began a long and fruitless search. They searched both inside and outside of the court. A weapon sniffing dog was brought in. People that were still in the Wareham Court had to pass thru the metal detector. Yet the police issued service revolver was not recovered. Police got a list of all people due in court on that day and plan to investigate.
It is not surprising that Captain Rogers has not returned reporters phone calls. It is unclear if Rogers will be disciplined for losing his gun in a courthouse.
Massachusetts Criminal Attorney Patrick Donovan has represented people charged in the Wareham District Court with both felony and misdemeanor crimes.
