Twenty-one year old Tonie Marie King of North Carolina was sentenced for her drunk and disorderly orderly charges. King was accused of stealing a beer from a convenience store and then struggling and kicking the arresting police officer.
Due to her alcohol-related charges, King was originally sentenced to 45 days in jail, but her sentence was instead reduced to a one-year probation and a two page essay on “how a lady should behave in public.”
Judge Brenda Branch says she doesn’t have a lot of resources, so she tries to be creative. This isn’t the first defendant who has been sentenced to writing a reflective essay.
