Edmund Scipione a Barnstable police officer that resigned in September has been sentenced to jail from the Taunton Distict court. Mr. Scipione will serve six months in the House of Correction after driving drunk with a 7 year old boy in his car.
Last summer Mr., Scipione was coach a little league team and was driving the boy to a game in Rehoboth. The boy ran for help in Swansea, say ing the man was drinking.
Mr. Scipione entered a plea of guilty Thursday to operating under the influence and child endangerment in connection with the ride last July that ended with the frightened boy jumping from the vehicle in Swansea.
Mr. Scipione’s was clearly enhanced because of the fact the there was a child in the car. Had there not been a child in the Mr. Scipione would not be heading to jail. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts treats child endangerment OUI’s very seriously. Here, Mr. Scipione got thirty days for the OUI, and five months for the child endangerment.
Attorney Patrick Donovan had handled many successful operating under the influence cases and has defended child endangerment case.
