A former Avon Massachusetts police officer was arrested Wednesday night on charges of attempted murder of a Massachusetts State Trooper.
Gene Guilbeault, 48, of Bridgewater is a retired Avon police officer. On Wednesday night there was a domestic dispute at his home. He left his home distraught and called a relative that believed Guilbeault was armed with a shotgun. A short time later the relative convinced Guilbeault to turn himself into the police. He then went to a Dunkin Donuts parking lot where he was going to surrender to police. After a briefly speaking with the officers, Guilbeault then drove at the troopers causing heavy damage to the cruiser. Both officers then opened fire. Guilbeault was not his with any bullets but was injured in the incident. It was then learned that Guilbeault was not armed.
Guilbeault will be arraigned on numerous charges including attempted murder in the Stoughton District Court this morning. It is likely he will be held on a cash bail in the Dedham House of Correction.
