According to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office Thomas was charged with one count of larceny over $250 in the Ipswich District Court. ex District Attorney spokesman Steve O’Connell said.
In addition to being an Ipswich Police Officer Thomas also served as the treasurer of the Ipswich Police Association. He served as treasurer from 2009-2013. During that time it is alleged that Thomas stole more than $11,00 from the fund.
Thomas has been placed on administrative leave from the police department. He was arraigned and released without having to post a cash bail. He is due back in court in October.
Larceny Over $250 is a felony in Massachusetts. Penalties may include state prison, house of correction, probation or fines. A felony conviction would remove Thomas from his job as a police officer as convicted felons cannot carry guns in Massachusetts.
