Man Arrested for Stealing Brains

January 7, 2014 by Patrick Donovan Leave a Comment

stolen brain in jarsDavid Charles a 21-year-old man has been arrested for breaking into a museum and stealing brains. According to the report Charles broke into The Medical History Museum and stole displayed autopsied brains of mental patients taken from the 1890s and 1940s.Those brains were preserved in jars.

Charles then used eBay auctions in order to sell the brains. One buyer from San Diego, bought six jars of brains for $600. The buyer stated that he enjoys collecting odd things. While inspecting his newly purchased brains, he noticed they had a museum label on them and called the museum to see if they were legit, but suspected that they were probably stolen. This brain burglar forgot to take the labels off. The police then set up a sting operation and arrested Charles.

The museum views the organs as a part of our collective cultural and scientific history. They were horrified by the fact that anyone would steal from a museum, according to a statement made by the director of the museum to the Indianapolis Star. Those in the museum business find it extremely disturbing that someone would steal from a museum.
