A 29-year MBTA police officer is in trouble for falling asleep at his desk while on the job. The police officer was stationed at the substation serving the Mattapan high speed line and Blue Hill Avenue buses.
At around 9:30 pm a picture was posted to Twitter showing the older police officer asleep at his desk. However, a supervisor stated he went minutes later and found him awake and working.
The area of Mattapan is really not the safest and for the police officer to be asleep at 9:30 is very bad. But I feel that the officers that found him minutes later and awake should have their own statements questioned.
The MBTA police has very broad police powers and have jurisdiction anywhere in Massachusetts that the MBTA runs. For this police officer to simply fall asleep puts everyone in danger. Maybe the MBTA will get some K-Cups with the new round of fare increases.
