Michael Santaniello who had won 1 million dollars in the Massachusetts State Lottery will spend the next 18 months in the House of Correction. Santaniello, the owner of Mike’s Oil Heat Service, has pleaded guilty to stealing more that 20,000 from his home heating oil clients.
Mr. Santaniello admitted that he had taken deposits for work that was never done or not completed on home heating equipment. Santaniello admitted that he targeted elderly long time clients of his business north of Boston. He admitted that he took deposits for work that he never intended to perform.
Mr. Santaniello pleaded guilty to many different charges in the Lowell District Court including larceny over $250 from a person over 60 years of age, larceny over $250; larceny by check over $250, larceny over $250 by false pretenses, along with failure to return leased personal property.
The assistant district attorney stated that Santantiello suffered from a gambling addiction and that after Santaniello won $1 million in 2009, he won another $23,000 from the lottery.
