A 43-year-old Louisiana pastor was arrested March 1 for the alleged sexual assault of a 20-year-old mentally challenged woman.
David “Scott” Lemley, pastor of New Harmony Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, has been charged with aggravated rape, according to The Advocate newspaper. He remains in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a $75,000 bond.
An arrest warrant stated that the woman’s father colluded with Lemley to have sex with his daughter, who has the mental capacity of a 7 year old. The Advocate also reported that the victim’s father was arrested in November 2013 on multiple sex charges and is also in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. The name of the victim and her father have not been released to protect her identity.
The warrant, prepared by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, further stated that the victim said her father encouraged her to have sex with the pastor because his wife, Kim Lemley, is sick and confined to bed.
KATC-TV3 reported that the woman told sheriff investigators she and the pastor had sex several times, even though she did not want to have sex with him. The Advocate reported that investigators asked the woman for the dates in which the two had sex but the woman was not able to provide the information.
Lemley told police in an interview in late 2013, that he did not have sex with the woman and accused the woman of fabricating the story, the arrest warrant said.
Lemley wanted to take a polygraph test to prove his innocence so police detectives arranged for him to take one on Dec. 6, 2013, according to information from the warrant. However, Lemley was a no-show that day and did not call police in advance to let them know that he would not be coming.
Massachusetts Criminal Attorney Patrick Donovan is a former prosecutor turned criminal defense attorney that has represented many clients charged with felony and misdemeanor charges. Attorney Donovan has appeared in over fifty courthouses in Massachusetts.
In an interview with The Advocate, Kim Lemley said her husband did not take the lie-detector test because his attorney advised him not to do it. Kim Lemley also said that she knows the woman who is accusing her husband of raping her and she does not believe the allegations against her husband are true.
