According to reports Robin Guess, 53, was seen by a store employee shoplifing items from a Utah grocery store. Store employees saw Ms. Guess place bacon in her purse, she was then seen leaving the store withour paying. As she was stoppped outside of the store she had also shoplifted magazines, chocolate bars, and pepsi. Ms. Guess stated theay she took the bacon because she ran out of money and stole the pepsi and chocolate because she was addicted to them. She has been charged with shoplifting and ordered held on $5,000 bail.
This is a first to see the pepsi and chocolate addiction defense, Althought there have been many other famous yet not successful addiction defenses like the twinkie defense this is a first. In Massachusetts, a criminal defense like an addiction to a product would not result in any type of leniency.
