
For the second time in seven years Hingham Police Sgt. Kris Phillips is facing criminal charges. On Wednesday Phillips was indicted for indicted for Insurance Fraud by a grand jury in Plymouth County.
According to reports, the investigation into Phillips false work related claim began after an anonymous letter was sent to the Town officials in the spring.
Philips claimed that he hit by a car while working a police detail on July 17. He claimed and that he received “significant injuries” when a car backing out of a parking space hit him. Phillips then applied for and received insurance benefits for the made up accident.
The investigation called the claim fabricated.
Phillips, a 20 year police veteran, was previously charged with assault and battery for hitting a town employee. He was fired as a result of that incident only to be rehired in 2012.
Philips will be formally charged with perjury, intimidation of a witness by misleading a police officer, and two counts of filing a false insurance claim. Town officials will meet on Monday to decide on any the of discipline for Phillips.
