Former Massachusetts state representative Jose Santiago pleaded not guilty today in Lawrence District court to charges of violating a 209a restraining order over the weekend.
Santiago, 53, who served as a police officer in Methuen was released on his promise to appear back in court later in March. The Essex county district attorney requested that Santiago be held on 10, 000 cash bail. This is the second alleged violation of the same restraining order.
Santiago was arrested over the weekend as he was waiting in the parking lot of the business where his former girlfriend was working.
