Teacher on Way to School Arrested for DUI
Close to Houston, Texas a teacher was arrested for driving under the influence after losing control of her vehicle and striking a highway barricade. This accident happeded as Patricia Almond was driving to workk at Timberwood Middle School. The accident reportedly occurred around 8 a.m. after officers spotted her vehicle swerving before eventually crashing. Police reports indicated the teacher, art and theater teacher Patricia Almond, was described as disoriented. According to the report, she also had blood shot eyes and smelled of alcohol. No blood alcohol content information was available.
In an unrelated case, another Humble ISD teacher was arrested on drug charges recently, along with three other individuals at her apartment in Porter, Texas. First-grade bilingual school teacher Monica Quintero was arrested and charged with three counts of manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance, as was her boyfriend. The remaining two defendants were charged with possession of stolen property in addition to multiple drug possession and trafficking charges. Firearms and a huge amount of cash were also found by investigating officers.
Both teachers have been placed on administrative leave while the cases are being prosecuted in court. Although both were described by students as excellent teachers, these legal complications will impact their careers as teachers. Almond will not be punished as severely, as she is only charged with misdemeanor DWI. Quintero is being prosecuted as a felon with multiple charges, even though she was released from police custody the day following the arrest. A conviction for Quintero could mean disqualification for maintaining elementary school teacher certification.
