In what appears to be a domestic violence case, Waltham Police Chief Thomas M. LaCroix has been arrested and is facing charges stemming from assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threats and witness intimidation. The 49 year old police chief was arrested on Thursday night in Maynard, Ma. The chief has since been replaced by the Deputy Chief.
Chief LaCroix was arrested at his home in Maynard after what police describe as a violent outburt. The chief was taken to Emerson Hospital where teh District Attorney stated they were concerned that he was suicidal. His lawyer stated that he is under stress and was not suicidal. Mr. LaCroix is to be arraigned at 4 pm at the hospital instead of at the Waltham District Court.
Hospital arraignments are not uncommon and as a prosecutor I handled dozens of hospital arraignments. Just because Mr. LaCroix is a police chief does is not the reason the arraignment is at the hospital.
If convicted, LaCroix faces a felony conviction. If convicted Mr. LaCroix would lose his right to carry a gun and would not be able to perform his job.
