According to the Boston Globe, the city of Worcester, Massachusetts settled a police brutality lawsuit for $47,500. The city of Worcester agreed to pay the man after he alleged that he was beaten by a baton when he was on the ground. The incident happened outside of a Worcester club, where according to the man his friend got fresh with a police officer. The officer then repeatedly hit the man with his baton bruising him and breaking his wrist.
Although 47,500 is not the largest settlement of the year it certainly is a win for the man in Worcester. The question I have is where are the criminal charges against the police officer? This is clear assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. That is a felony. The city can pay money but not punish the person who did this.
