Uninsured Motor Vehicle Lawyer

Motor vehicles must have insurance in Massachusetts. Massachusetts law requires a minimum amount of coverage. It is a crime to either operate without insurance. Also, it is a crime to allow someone else to operate your uninsured vehicle on a public way.

Often, someone operating an uninsured vehicle is not even aware that their insurance had lapsed. Unfortunately, this is not an appropriate defense. However, it may be a mitigating factor in resolving the case.

Penalties for Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle in Massachusetts

Anyone convicted of driving without insurance faces jail. It can be up to one year in jail. Also, there is a minimum fine of $500 but up to $5000. A conviction also carries a minimum of 60 days but up to a one-year driver’s license suspension.

The outcome of each specific case largely depends on your criminal record, driving history, the specific facts surrounding your charge, and whether or not you have since obtained proper insurance.

Can a Lawyer Help me with an Uninsured Motor Vehicle Charge?

An attorney can explain the criminal process, negotiate with the District Attorney and help you get the possible result for your uninsured motor vehicle case. Often times an experienced defense attorney can even convince the district attorney to dismiss the case. An attorney may even be able to keep the charges off of your criminal record.
