Roy Murphy, a 43-year-old Missouri man wanted to go back to jail.. Murphy, who had been out of jail for a year claims he has nothing and does not know how to live in the free world.
So, the ex-con recently wanted to get caught when he robbed a St. Joseph convenience store Murphy so that he could go back to jail.
During the robbery Murphy used polite language with the clerk of the store and asked them to please call the police. At first the clerk would not open the drawer of the register. He politely requested that the clerk open the drawer. He offered to wear the camouflage ski mask he had in his possession if it would entice the clerk to call the police and make his arrest more likely. Murphy requested the maximum sentence of seven years for his crime, but the judge denied him and gave him four years. He did not get the sentence he wanted merely because he did not use force on the store clerk.
