Lewis Eugene Starks Jr. has been charged with receiving stolen property after he allegedly tried to sell a replica Heisman Trophy given to OJ Simpson. If convicted Starks could serve up to six years in prison.
The trophy was stolen from the University of Southern California in 1994. It was given to the school in 1964 after Simpson won the award. it is customary that schools get replica trophies for award recipients. The trophy was stolen from the University in 1994. At the time of the theft Simpson was on trial for the murder or his wife and her friend.
The replica Heisman trophy was recovered in 2014 by members of the LA Police art theft department.
Simpson is currently serving time in Nevada on armed robbery and kidnapping charges.
